Privacy policy

Winnow is a Chrome extension that filters replies already visible on x.com. Its core scoring, correction, review, rule, and insight features run in the browser.

What Winnow processes locally

To provide filtering and explain decisions, Winnow can process public reply text and public account metadata already loaded by X, including reply timing and account counts when X makes them available.

• Settings, followed-account protection, user-created never-filter and always-hide lists.
• Correction vectors and local similarity hashes used to improve scoring.
• Up to 300 Pro review entries with public handles and reply previews.
• Bounded diagnostic previews, local custom rules, and private aggregate insights.
• A licence key and its most recent validation status if you activate Pro.

What Winnow does not send

Winnow does not transmit X reply text, X handles, post IDs, review entries, corrections, custom rules, or private insights to Winnow, Polar, or an analytics provider. Winnow does not sell data, run advertising profiles, or use remote executable code.

Chrome sync and the no-card trial

A minimal trial marker can use Chrome sync storage so reinstalling does not restart the three-day trial. It contains only timestamps and a random anonymous installation identifier. Reply content, handles, review entries, corrections, insights, and licence keys do not use Chrome sync.

Polar subscriptions

When you press Activate or Check again, Winnow requests optional access to Polar’s API and sends only the licence key you entered plus Winnow’s public Polar organization identifier. Polar returns entitlement status and, when available, an expiry time. An explicit rejection or known expiry disables Pro.

The Subscribe button opens a Polar-hosted checkout. Polar processes purchase, payment, email, and billing information under Polar’s own privacy policy. Winnow does not receive or store card details, billing addresses, or Polar customer records.

Offline validation

If Polar cannot be reached, a previously verified paid licence can remain active for up to 14 days from its last successful check. A key that was never verified cannot activate offline.

Permissions

• storage and unlimitedStorage keep settings and bounded local product data reliable.
• sidePanel displays the user-opened Pro review inbox.
• alarms schedules periodic licence checks.
• Required site access is limited to x.com and twitter.com.
• Optional access is limited to api.polar.sh and is requested from activation or re-check actions.

Winnow does not request cookies, webRequest, identity, tabs, all-website access, or your X authentication information.

Retention and your controls

Local memory and review collections are bounded. Settings provides controls to remove list entries and rules, clear review items, reset learned scoring, remove local templates and diagnostics, deactivate a licence, or clear Winnow data by uninstalling the extension.

Security and changes

Polar activation uses HTTPS. No transmission method can guarantee absolute security, but Winnow minimizes the data sent by keeping its filtering pipeline local. Material policy changes will be reflected on this page and in the policy date.
